Impactos da Urbanização sobre Parques Públicos:estudo de caso do Parque Zoobotânico do Museu Goeldi (Belém - PA)

Abstract

The present dissertation investigates the influence of urbanization in the Zoobotanical Park - ZBP of the Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi, located at the center of the city of Belém. The ZBP is an urban public park, listed as a landmarked site by the federal and state governments. Three aspects of the urbanization process which impact the conservation of the ZBP are analyzed: the verticalization of the buildings, the growth of the flow of vehicles around the park, as well its institutional and public uses. This work examines how the shadowing of the ZBP caused by the high buildings, the noise produced by the vehicles and the behavior of visitors and employees affect the fauna, the flora and the visitors themselves, putting at risk the maintenance of the Park. The analytical categories investigated in this work are urbanization, urban public park and protection. The work reaches the conclusion that the fauna, the flora and the visitors of the PZB are been negatively affected by the rapid urbanization that characterizes Belém and the Brazilian cities, in general, during the 20th and 21st centuries.
