In the archeology of the Amazon there are arguments that, by the force of repetition, end up being considered true, although this is not the intention. Such is the case with the classificatory assumptions that underlie the traditional historical narrative about the regional human presence. There were decades when this classificatory history began only from the evidence of the presence of horticultural populations leaving, until the 1986s, the existence of hunter-gatherers in doubt. The consequence was the absence of most of the history that humans developed in the Amazon. And this absence had a devastating effect on the way endogenous cultures, processes and populations were understood and classified.
Resumo
Na arqueologia da Amazônia, há argumentos que, pela força da repetição, acabam sendo considerados verdadeiros, embora não seja essa a intenção. É o caso dos pressupostos classificatórios que fundamentam a narrativa histórica tradicional sobre a presença humana regional. Houve décadas em que essa história classificatória se iniciava apenas a partir da evidência da presença de populações hortícolas, deixando, até a década de 1986, a existência de caçadores-coletores em dúvida. A consequência foi a ausência da maior parte da história que os humanos desenvolveram na Amazônia. E essa ausência teve um efeito devastador na maneira como culturas, processos e populações endógenas eram compreendidos e classificados.
