dc.description.abstractThe Galibí (Karib), at the time of Biet (1652), inhabited the coastal part of the Guianas from "Mahury to the mouth of the Orinoco River". Today they are located in Brazil, Dutch Guiana, and on the coast of French Guiana . In the present article the author focuses mainly the Galibí of the Oiapoque River village (population 62), Territory of Amapá, Brazil. Linguistic affiliation of the tribes of the area, their possible distribution in three cultural areas, and their cult~ral classüication are given in the introduction. The main part of the paper is divided. in ten chapters: Villages and population, Clothing, Marriage and Family, Manufactures, Economy, Chieftain, Life cycle, Amusement, Religion, Shamamism . Special attention is given to the cultural change in its context, the present sitliation of the Galibí, and their relation with the outside world.pt_BR
