O guaraná (Paullinia cupana var sorbilis) em estado provavelmente espontâneo, no Planalto de Santarém, Pará

Abstract

In the increase of roads, recently observed in the Amazonia, it is possible now, undertake excursions on places until now inacessible. The opening of a road, connecting Santarém to the Curuá-Una River, in a lenght of 70 kilometers, made possible to us, explore a area of high and primary wood, where there are trees of considerable economical importance. In that forest was found the plant of "guaraná" (Paullinia cupana H.B.K., var sorbilis (Mart.) Ducke); being an old wood, without signs of ancient habitations of indians, the author suppose to speak well for the guaraná on the spontaneous condition, event that, not realized up to date. On sight that, the author presents the hypothesis of that could have been that spot, the source from where derived the plants cultivated on Municipio of Maués, State Amazonas, at long time ago.
