Com base em pesquisas etnográficas efetuadas nos últimos anos entre os indígenas Ka’apor das aldeias Xiepihu-rena e Paracui-rena, na Terra Indígena Alto Turiaçu, localizada na Amazônia maranhense (Brasil), o artigo aborda o mundo das representações e práticas hortícolas Ka’apor, considerando aspectos das narrativas orais que contextualizam estes conhecimentos dentro da cosmovisão indígena, as características da horticultura na atualidade em termos da diversidade dos cultivos, assim como as mudanças na organização do trabalho hortícola na conjuntura atual, caraterizada pelos conflitos gerados pela exploração ilegal de madeira na Terra Indígena Alto Turiaçu e a influência das políticas públicas.
Resumo
This article is based on ethnographic research conducted in recent years among the indigenous Ka’apor of the Xiepihurena and Paracui-rena villages in the Alto Turiaçu indigenous reserve, located in the Brazilian Amazonian state Maranhão. The article relates to the world of representations and horticultural practices of the Ka’apor, discussing aspects of oral narratives that contextualize this knowledge within the indigenous world view. It furthermore elaborates on present-day horticultural characteristics in terms of crop diversity, as well as changes in the current organization of horticultural work, due to public policies and the conflicts generated by illegal timber exploitation in the Alto Turiaçu indigenous reserve.
