A new species of Hypancistrus Isbrücker & Nijssen 1991 (Loricariidae, Siluriformes) from the rapids of the Middle Rio Tocantins.

| dc.description.abstract | O gênero Hypancistrus é reconhecido na bacia do Rio Orinoco e no Rio Xingu, nos Escudos das Guianas e do Brasil, respectivamente. Algumas de suas espécies são importantes para a pesca ornamental. Apesar dessa importância, muitas outras espécies ainda não descritas aguardam nomeação. Aqui, descrevemos uma nova espécie de Hypancistrus encontrada em leito rochoso no Rio Tocantins, representando uma extensão da distribuição do gênero. Além disso, apresentamos uma filogenia multigênica para avaliar a posição taxonômica dessa espécie em relação às congêneres. A nova espécie difere de todos os congêneres por (1) odontóides hipertrofiados nas bochechas que se estendem além do cleitro, (2) uma crista supraoccipital conspicuamente elevada, (3) uma crista supraorbital ligeiramente convexa, (4) barras oblíquas na parte anterior do corpo, (5) uma marca escura em forma de E no focinho, (6) três barras escuras oblíquas na parte anterior do corpo e barras vermiculares horizontais da cintura peitoral até a inserção posterior da nadadeira dorsal, (7) uma fina barra cinza-clara na parte posterior da cabeça que se estende pela abertura branquial, (8) uma cor de fundo castanha, (9) um suspensório desenvolvido com um apêndice diminuído no metapterigóide e (10) uma placa dentária robusta significativamente fundida com o osso anguloarticular. Os resultados da filogenia molecular mostram a nova espécie formando um grupo com Hypancistrus zebra (Escudo Brasileiro—Rio Xingu) como um clado, um grupo irmão de um grupo monofilético constituído por todos os congêneres do Rio Orinoco. | |
| dc.description.resumo | The Hypancistrus genus is recognized in the Río Orinoco basin and Rio Xingu in the Guiana and Brazilian Shields, respectively. Some of its species are important in ornamental fishing. Despite this significance, many other undescribed species are still awaiting to be named. Here we describe a new species of Hypancistrus found on bedrock in the Rio Tocantins, representing an extension of the distribution of the genus. Also, a multigene phylogeny is presented to evaluate the taxonomic position of this species concerning congeners. The new species differs from all congeners by (1) hypertrophied odontodes on cheeks reaching beyond the cleithrum, (2) a supraoccipital crest conspicuously elevated, (3) a supraorbital crest slightly convex, (4) oblique bars on the anterior part of the body, (5) a dark E-shaped mark on the snout, (6) three oblique dark bars on the anterior part of the body and horizontal vermicular bars from the pectoral girdle to the posterior insertion of the dorsal fin, (7) a thin light gray bar on the posterior of the head extending across the branchial opening, (8) a tan background color, (9) a developed suspensorium with a diminished appendix in the metapterygoid, and (10) a dentary plate robust significantly fused with the anguloarticular bone. The molecular phylogenetic results show the new species forming a group with Hypancistrus zebra (Brazilian Shield—Rio Xingu) as a clade, a sister group of a monophyletic group consisting of all congeners from the Río Orinoco. | |
