O presente livro traz uma seleção dos trabalhos que foram originalmente apresentados
no III Simpósio da Biota Amazônica, além de alguns outros textos de pessoas que
foram convidadas especialmente para contribuir com esta coletânea. Os artigos
demostram que houve um avanço considerável no conhecimento da biodiversidade
nos últimos 150 anos, mas também evidenciam que a Amazônia vem sofrendo um
intenso processo de transformação em seus diversos aspectos, indicando como o
antropismo influenciou na resposta de plantas e animais às mudanças ambientais. Os
textos ora publicados trazem também reflexões sobre as transformações ocorridas
nos últimos 50 anos com relação às populações amazônicas, questões envolvendo
povos indígenas e demais povos tradicionais, suas culturas e seus territórios, com
ênfase nos processos de constituição dos territórios tradicionais na Amazônia e no
papel desses territórios no que se refere à proteção e à conservação dos ecossistemas.
Resumo
This book brings a selection of the works that were originally presented
at the III Symposium on Amazon Biota, as well as some other texts by people who
were specially invited to contribute to this collection. the articles
demonstrate that there has been considerable advance in the knowledge of biodiversity
over the last 150 years, but they also show that the Amazon has been suffering from a
intense process of transformation in its various aspects, indicating how the
anthropism influenced the response of plants and animals to environmental changes. You
texts now published also bring reflections on the changes that have occurred
in the last 50 years with regard to Amazonian populations, issues involving
indigenous peoples and other traditional peoples, their cultures and their territories, with
emphasis on the processes of constitution of traditional territories in the Amazon and in the
role of these territories with regard to the protection and conservation of ecosystems.
