*Espíritos da Lua – Gênesis* is a fictional comic book that addresses the illegal trade of archaeological artifacts, set against the backdrop of the archaeological sites in Monte Alegre, Pará. The publication is part of the project "Rock Art of Monte Alegre: Dissemination and Memory of Archaeological Heritage," which aims to share—through various media—the results of research conducted in the region, while also promoting knowledge and appreciation of its significant archaeological heritage among the general public.
Turismo e arqueologia na Amazônia - Brasil: aspectos de preservação e planejamento

This paper addresses the challenges faced by archaeological sites in the State of Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon, focusing particularly on the municipalities of Monte Alegre and Geraldo do Araguaia. Conservation units were established in these municipalities—the Monte Alegre State Park and the Serra das Andorinhas State Park—where these sites represent one of the main tourist attractions promoted by specialized agencies. The research highlighted the need for key actions to integrate archaeological heritage with tourism, including: establishing a multidisciplinary research and management team; defining preliminary site zoning; setting criteria for pristine and visitation zones; identifying areas suitable for public visits and educational initiatives; building infrastructure to enhance access and site protection; producing informational materials on research findings; and training specialized guides.
As cerâmicas dos sítios a céu aberto de Monte Alegre: subsídios para a arqueologia do Baixo Amazonas

This paper presents the initial results of ceramic analysis with materials from open air sites in the Monte Alegre region. Monte Alegre has long been known for the abundant and impressive rock art sites, as well as for the records of very early human occupation at the cave Pedra Pintada dug by Roosevelt 20 years ago. A new research project in the area, with a wider, regional approach, is now investigating the diversity of archaeological records in the area, including open air ceramic sites pertaining to the a more recent occupational period, starting around the XII century AD. The data shows that despite the proximity of Santarém, and some influence from its ceramic styles, Monte Alegre ceramics exhibit a local, particular pattern, being permeated by elements from not only Santarém (and Konduri) styles, but also by what seem to be a cross-cultural stylistic complex in the Lower Amazon, now being identified with Koriabo materials. Based on these data, the paper discusses the relation between the longevity of ceramic occupations in the area and later social developments, as well as the dynamics of stylistic flows suggested by these more recent materials in the wider context of the Lower Amazon region.
Amazônia Antropogênica

This study addresses the ancient and systemic influence of human populations on the formation and distribution of plant resources in the Amazon, challenging the dichotomy between nature and culture. Grounded in landscape archaeology, ethnobotany, and soil science (pedology), the research analyzes the transition from unconscious anthropic actions to deliberate anthropogenic practices, demonstrating that cultural species selection and environmental modeling by past communities established forests of cultural origin that develop autonomously as primary forests.
Guia arqueológico do Parque Estadual Monte Alegre

The Archaeological Guide to Monte Alegre State Park, developed by researchers from the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and UFOPA, highlights the prehistoric heritage of the Lower Amazon. Structured as an educational resource, the guide covers sites such as Caverna da Pedra Pintada and Serra da Lua, which feature rock paintings dating back approximately 12,000 years. The work promotes heritage education and awareness against the degradation of archaeological sites.
