A cronologia das pinturas rupestres da Caverna da Pedra Pintada, Monte Alegre, Pará: revisão histórica e novos dados

This article presents a summary of the various theories about the chronology of the cave paintings from Monte Alegre, as well as the formal characteristics of the themes represented at the Caverna da Pedra Pintada site. The main goal is to identify differences in style and consequently propose different periods for the execution of these paintings. To provide context for the cave paintings at this site, excavations were carried out in 2014 near one of the painted walls. A set of dates were associated with the recovered material, such as pigments, artifacts, and charcoal, as well as soot stains over the paintings; this information offers possibilities to contextualize the rock art activity at this site.
Da penumbra à escuridão - a arte rupestre das cavernas de Rurópolis, Pará, Amazônia, Brasil

In the Brazilian Amazon, rock paintings and engravings are mainly present in open air areas. There are only few records about the presence of rock art within caves. Rurópolis, a county located in the southwestern part of the state of Pará, seems to be an exception, since it houses an important speleological province with lots of sandstone caves. Some of these caves house prehistoric paintings and engravings whose technical and stylistic features are unmatched in the Amazon. However, the uniqueness and main feature of this rock art lies in the fact they are located in aphotic areas of the caves.

Arqueologia e turismo na Amazônia: problemas e perspectivas

This article discusses the main problems that have affected Amazonian archaeological sites as a consequence of unsupervised tourist practices. The current state of sites located in three different regions of Pará are examined, while some basic procedures for the touristic access to archaeological sites are recommended.
Amazônia antropogênica

The publication highlights the advances in Amazonian archaeology over the past two decades, demonstrating that Indigenous populations played a fundamental role in transforming and domesticating the Amazonian landscape long before European colonization. Based on research conducted in the Carajás Mountain Range, the work brings together archaeological, botanical, and pedological evidence showing the human influence on the formation of anthropogenic forests. By integrating society, history, and nature, the book contributes to a better understanding of the occupation of the Amazon and underscores the importance of preserving this socio-environmental heritage.
