Peixes teleósteos da costa norte do Brasil

Abstract

Research on marine fish off the northern coast of Brazil is recent, beginning in the 1970s, with information on the exploitation of the region's main fishing resources. These actions are mainly due to the implementation of the Superintendence for Fisheries Development (SUDEPE), which was later incorporated into the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). Finally, its research actions were transferred to the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), an agency linked to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA). As such, this book represents the necessary tools for amateur and professional fishermen, scientists, conservationists and the curious to learn about the diversity of marine fish off the northern coast of Brazil. The book is composed of identification keys, descriptive sheets and illustrations of all coastal species with confirmed records for the region.
