A poética das mãos: um estudo sobre o artesanato de Abaetetuba

Abstract

The handicrafts of Abaetetuba produce toys made of miriti fibers (Mauritia flexuosa Linn). The importance of the miriti handicrafts, in the cultural context of the region, is due to the fact that they are closely linked to the folkloric manifestations of the Lower Tocantins, as well as to the main religious event of Pará: the Chio of Our Lady of Nazareth. The project proposes to build a well-documented collection of miriti toys, as well as an anthropological study of the artisanal productions. In another stage of the research, we will contribute to the community by organizing a catalog for the divulgation of the artisans' work. Besides the bibliographical survey, field research will be carried out with the collection and documentation of objects, interviews, application of questionnaires, as well as participant observation around the daily events that involve the toy artisan and his production.
